Diesdas Wiki How we think + roll

This is the place where we collect all things Diesdas; our company culture and philosophy, guides for new employees, and any interesting bits and pieces about the team and the company.

We decided to publish this handbook to give everyone a look behind the curtain, so you can see how we roll as an organisation. We hope that you find this useful.

Our Values

Code of Conduct

These three principles work together: our code of conduct sets the foundation for respect, our communication principles ensure everyone can participate, and our feedback culture helps us continuously improve how we work together.

This code of conduct applies to all situations and interactions during daily office life, as well as our events like parties and meetups. We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment for all employees, people working with us and visitors of the office, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof).

Expected behaviours:

  • Participate in an authentic and active way. We value your contributions, feedback and criticism.
  • Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions.
  • Attempt collaboration before conflict.
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and the people you’re with.
  • If you see that somebody is alone, lost or needs help, actively offer your assistance.

Communication Principles

We're an international team and while some of us are trying to learn German, most of the office communication takes place in English. To encourage inclusivity and language exchange between team members, we follow these general principles:

  • Speak at a slower rate and use clear pronunciation with anyone who is less familiar with your language
  • Don’t be afraid to use body language to get a point across
  • Avoid jargon and advanced vocabulary – instead speak clearly and in plain terms
  • Be respectful of other’s language barriers by showing patience and understanding
  • Have fun with it, language is supposed to be flexible!

Feedback Culture

At Diesdas, we facilitate a culture of open feedback and are eager to hear about any suggestions or problems our team might have. In bi-weekly 1on1s we have continuous conversations about wellbeing, roles, challenges and growth. We don’t hold grudges and do our best to resolve challenging situations quickly – by finding constructive solutions that work for everyone.

Feedback is a two-way street. We’re all learning continuously, and we place high importance on being able to give feedback honestly and in a safe space. That being said, we’re far from being perfect and often reflect on situations we handled badly in the past. We openly acknowledge these situations rather than sweep them under the rug – it’s the only way to truly grow and learn from our mistakes.
